Summary of works: Kitchen fitting, bespoke joinery, IKEA hack, Valchromat and birch ply joinery, reclaimed iroko worktop
We carried out finishing works to a few of the new-build houses at the Water Lillies project in Bristol, a near zero-carbon housing development with a self-build element.
This is an Ikea kitchen with some bespoke details. The worktop and floating shelves are made from iroko reclaimed from school science labs, and there were clear scorch marks from Bunsen burners on the underside! The bookcase at the end was made from scratch from Ikea end panels, and some other units were modified to fit. Some careful setting out was required for the tiled hood extractor unit, to allow for full tiles across the length.
The wardrobe is in the same property, built a few months later. The carcasses are Ikea Pax units, the panelling and scribes are birch plywood, and the doors are blue Valchromat. The grooves on the doors were designed using CAD modelling to give the appearance of halflap planks.
The birch ply bookcase, and flush door below, hide a heating manifold and controls, and some MVHR ducting.
